Agriturismo Il Colombaiolo
Pienza, Val d'orcia

Agriturismo with Val d'Orcia scenery
Agriturismo Il Colombaiolo is a farmhouse located about 10 minutes walk from the small town of Pienza, a charming town that was built during the Renaissance as an ideal village.
As most agriturismo are located on farms quite far from the town, if you don't want to eat at the agriturismo, you will have to go to a restaurant in a nearby town. This makes it difficult to drink a lot of wine during dinner, as you will be driving on unfamiliar country roads late at night.
Here at Il Colombaro, however, you can reach the walls of Pienza in about 10 minutes by taking a slow walk along a country road. It's the perfect place to enjoy the buzz of a small town in the evening and the quiet relaxation of an agriturismo.
The Agriturismo is located near the Val d'Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On my way back to the Agriturismo after dinner in Pienza and a walk along the stone walls, the view of the starry sky of the Val d'Orcia at night is unforgettable.
Surrounded by vineyards and vegetable gardens, across a courtyard where ducks and chickens roam free, the agriturismo is located in the middle of an olive grove, and the family of the owner, Lucia, also produces their own handmade olive oil.
If it's late fall or early winter, you can taste freshly produced olive oil. If you taste the fresh, green olive oil that has just been pressed, you'll probably say, "This is the first time in my life that I've felt refreshed after eating oil."

I had the chance to taste olive oil freshly produced by the farm at the end of November. It was different from the yellow olive oil I used to eat. It was bluish, had a grassy aroma and was a little thicker. It was the first time I felt refreshed after olive oil.
