Parador de Segovia
Segovia

A great view overlooking Segovia
The Parador de Segovia is located on a hill overlooking the old town of Segovia, a small city with aqueducts and the Alcazar, the model for Disney's Cinderella Castle, about 40 minutes from Madrid.
There are three types of Parador: Esentia, which renovates old buildings such as castles and convents; Naturia, which is built in a beautiful natural setting; and Civia, which is built in the city centre or near important historical sites. The Parador de Segovia is the last of the three.
It is a great place to visit Segovia's old town, with its Roman aqueducts, alcazars and churches, which are densely packed on the hillside. Of course, it is difficult to get there without a car, as the Parador is a bit away from the old town.
But even with a little effort, the view of the sky over Segovia, which turns red at dusk, and the white lights of the Alcazar and the Cathedral, from the outside terrace of the Parador restaurant, is reason enough to stay here. It is better to see it from a distance than to jump into it.
The Parador's restaurant, which is connected to the terrace in front of the large glass windows, serves traditional dishes from Castile and Leon, starting with sopa de ajo, a Castilian garlic soup made with garlic and chilli powder, and cochinillo asado, a suckling pig roast cooked over a wood fire. A large portion of the dish is served with potatoes on one side of the plate.
When the dinner, which begins after 8 p.m., reaches the ponche segoviano, a traditional Segovian cake, the night view of Segovia will unfold before your eyes.

The morning market
in Segovia Cathedral
Every Thursday morning, a small market is held in the Plaza Mayor, next to the Cathedral of Segovia. It can be seen from the terrace of the Parador. Various types of pickled olives, garlic, copper utensils and small tents with open stalls are set up under the Gothic spire with its elaborate carvings.
