Hotel Schyrenhof
Scheyern

Staying in a real monastery
Hotel Schyrenhof is a monastery hotel located one hour north of Munich. It is also located on the road from Nuremberg to Munich and is close to the town of Freising, which is famous for its Bavarian beer.
The hotel is part of Schyren Monastery, which was founded in 1119 by the wife of Otto II, then Count of Schyren. The family belonged to the Wittelsbach dynasty, which ruled Bavaria for almost 900 years until the First World War. It was therefore also the abbey of the royal Wittelsbach family in the Middle Ages.
The Romanesque monastery houses a brewery, restaurant, beer garden and accommodation. The interior of the old building has been renovated in a modern style, and the rooms and bathrooms are quite spacious and simple, without any unnecessary decorations. Judging from the reviews of those who have visited, it is a small inconvenience (!) that the bells often ring at night, as it is a real monastery. However, there were many positive reviews about the beer in the beer garden and the quiet and peaceful surroundings.

Wish List
Here is a wish list of places I would like to stay on my next trip, including a monastic brewery and brewery accommodation in Bavaria that I missed on my last few trips to Germany.
Scheyern Monastery & beer

Scheyern Abbey has been a brewery since 1119 and is the third oldest brewery in Germany. The monastery went through a period of decline due to war and secularisation. It was later restored by Ludwig I, the Bavarian monarch of the 19th century.
The history of brewing goes back almost a thousand years, but the tradition of brewing in the Scheyern monastery has been carried on with difficulty. It was revived in 2006 when the brewery was reorganised and the production of monastery beer began in earnest. To celebrate the 900th anniversary of the monastery, they launched '900 Jahre Jubiläumsbier' (900 years anniversary beer). It is said to be brewed according to a traditional recipe.
